Parenting can be Messy

Some possible hardships of parenting include lack of sleep, constantly feeling rushed and overwhelmed, and exhaustion from attending to the emotional and physical needs of your child(ren).

As a psychiatrist and mom of two boys, I understand.

Many daily factors, including biological, emotional, and environmental, contribute to your mental health and how you relate to your child as a parent.

I am on a mission to strengthen families through the parent-child connection.

Despite the mess, you can still parent with smiles.

  • The initial psychiatric evaluation is a comprehensive assessment that takes place over 1-2 60 minute sessions. We will conduct a safety assessment; review your intake form; discuss your presenting problems and symptoms; review your past and current medical history including medications; inquire about your family and social histories. We will also conduct an in-depth assessment of your parent-child relationships including an understanding of family dynamics. After the evaluation is completed, We will provide clinical impressions, working diagnoses, and propose a treatment plan. Time will be made available to answer any and all questions.

  • We provide evidence-based medication management also known as psychopharmacological treatment for psychiatric symptoms and/or behaviors that affect functioning. Utilizing research and established standards of care, we will recommend and maintain psychotropic medications. Sometimes these medications require ongoing lab work and/or medical testing, which will be discussed during the treatment planning session.

  • We are trained in evidence-based psychotherapies such as supportive psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, cognitive processing therapy, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. We will make psychotherapy recommendations as indicated for your symptoms and/or behavior.

  • We have a heart for the attachment theory, which emphasizes the importance of a child’s bond with his or her primary caregiver. We will teach you how to foster connection between you and your child by reducing reactivity, practicing compassion, tending to your child’s emotions, communicating with intention and incorporating mindfulness into your lifestyle.
